New Tile: Week of September 17
Hello, tile friends.
After two weeks, two diamond grinding wheels, and 1,000 antique floor tiles, we’re finally back to our regularly scheduled tile escapades.
In the coming days, we’ll be shipping out replacement tiles for two historic homes in Joplin, Missouri, boxing up a set of rare, never-installed mottled field tiles from c. 1905, and posting some of our lovely 1930 kitchen and bathroom tiles from an Ossining, New York house.
Later this week, we’re trucking up to Paterson, New Jersey to rescue tiles from a soon-to-be-demolished mansion. Abandoned and moldering for 25 years, our reconnaissance suggests this ghostly 1909 manor could provide four bathrooms’ worth of subway tiles and accent tiles, as well as multiple fireplaces of unusual surround and hearth tile. Follow along on our Instagram for a sneak peek!
This week’s antique tile spotlight delves into the world of art nouveau design. In vogue at the turn of the century, this era of decorative arts leans on organic shapes — as opposed to Art Deco, whose later geometric modernism offers a stark contrast — nature-centric themes, and ornate detailing.
As you’ll notice from this week’s list, these tiles commonly feature elegant floral patterns with a gentle color palette.
Any of this week’s art nouveau tiles can be utilized in fireplace settings and beyond. Be sure to reach out with interest!
Over and out,
Katy + James

That’s all for this week! If you like one of the new tiles in our shop but are unsure how to build a design around them, reach out! We are always happy to design something custom to bring your vision to life.
