Victorian Mottled/Figural Fireplace Surround - American Encaustic Tile Co.
Check out this stunning FULL fireplace surround tile set from the late 19th/early 20th century. These came from a house in Cincinnati shortly before demolition. Thankfully, I got to save them! A second set from the same property is also for sale.
These tiles were made by the American Encaustic Tile Company (AE Tile Co, or AETCo) out of Ohio. They feature a white background with a beautiful mottled green and brown pattern. There are also four lovely figural tiles and green tiles at the bottom that ground the set.
The outside of the tile surround measures 36" tall by 36" wide. The inside measurements are 30" tall by 24" wide.
The color on them is stunning. As you can see from the picture, the mottled coloring incorporates white and various shades of green and brown in certain places. Each tile is unique! When the sun hits them they’re so beautiful to look at!
Because these tiles are approximately 100-130 years old, they’ll have some leftover mortar, chips, pits, flea bites, soot, paint, etc. I have other full tiles sets and individual tiles for sale , so check them out!
