Rare 1880s Figural Tile Surround in Shell Design - U.S. Encaustic Tile Company
$1,320.00
This beautiful set of historic antique tiles were salvaged in Chicago from a regal home slated for demolition. They were made by the U.S. Encaustic Tile Company out of Indianapolis, Indiana. U.S.E.T. was in business from 1877-1886, making it likely that these tiles originated in the 1880s Victorian era.
Each tile features a stylized shell surrounded by a ribbon design in a beautiful pale ivory color. The molded low relief design allows for pooling of the original glaze in some places, creating a darker tone to highlight the figural design.
All tiles in this set have been hand scraped of all loose dirt, mortar, and grout before receiving a thorough cleaning to remove soot, coal, and paint. They are in excellent condition at nearly 150 years old and will provide a statement in your home.
As currently measured, the set is:
Per tile: 6" square
Surround: 36" wide x 36" tall
All tiles are shipped via UPS Ground with standard insurance and tracking for $26. All items are sold as is with no warranties expressed or implied.
