Pair of 19th Century Roman Couple Figural Tiles Pink, Victorian High Relief Fireplace Kitchen Bathroom Accent Tile, AET Co. Antique Vintage
This listing features an impeccable set of late 19th century figural tiles featuring a Roman couple glazed in a beautiful light mauve. The glaze pools in the lower relief parts of each tile, creating a striking blend of light mauve and burgundy. Each tile measures 6x6".
These tiles were made by the American Encaustic Tile Company out of Zanesville, Ohio and New York City. At one time reported to be the largest tile manufacturer in the world, the company was founded in 1874. The firm produced the famous nursery tiles designed by Walter Crane, and later hired Frederick H. Rhead (a major figure in American ceramics history) to head its research. The Zanesville plant closed in 1935, a victim of the Great Depression
These tiles came from the collection of a life-long tile collector who traveled the world rescuing antique tiles. I was fortunate to purchase much of his Bloomington, Illinois collection.
This tile can be used in a surround or hearth design, in a kitchen or bathroom, or framed to enjoy as home decor.
These tiles are in lovely condition for their age and feature intricate designs that can complement many different home styles or be framed as home decor.
These tiles have been hand scraped of all loose dirt, mortar, and grout before receiving a thorough cleaning to remove soot, coal, and paint. This piece of art and home history and offers a great way to bring ambiance and patina into your home.
All tiles are shipped via UPS Ground with standard insurance and tracking for $17. If you attempt to purchase multiple tiles and Etsy provides a high shipping number, please reach out and I will correct the issue. All items are sold as is with no warranties expressed or implied.
